Housewarming Gift Ideas: Give Them Something They Really Want! April 29, 2016 13:30

We've all experienced that moment of panic when a friend or relative moves house, and we don't know what to buy for them! This usually results in a last minute dash to the supermarket to pick up a bunch of flowers and a bottle of wine. While there's nothing wrong with that type of gift, the wine will soon be consumed and the flowers will wither, so there won't be any lasting memory.

Instead, why not give a gift that can be enjoyed forever? Giving a gift for the home shows that you've thought long and hard about what the recipient might like, and that you've put a great deal of effort into finding a suitable gift. This is much more meaningful than a simple bunch of flowers.

Candles

You can never have too many candles in your home, so this is a gift that will surely be appreciated. Candles add warmth, light, and create a sense of ambiance to a new house that will help the recipient settle in and feel at home. We have a range of candles and candle sets in all sorts of colours and patterns, which can all be personalised to suit the recipient.

Coffee Mugs

Practical gifts are often best, and there's nothing more practical than a mug. Almost everyone drinks tea and coffee on a daily basis, so this is a gift they're going to enjoy again and again. We stock a range of mugs, teacups, latte glasses, and even mug sets for couples. So whatever the personality of the recipient, you will find something in our store that they will love.

All of our gifts can be personalised, to make them truly unique to each recipient. Add the couple's names, initials, or even add the date they moved into their new home! You could also add a personal message, such as a "congratulations," or "wishing you happiness in your new home." The world is really your oyster when it comes to personalisation, and we can do almost anything you ask for. We can even change the colours to match the recipient's favourite colour, or the colours of their home.

Black Magic: Hidden Symbols and Meanings of the Colour Black April 27, 2016 16:25

Of all the colours, black probably has the largest range of meanings associated with it. Sometimes it can represent evil and darkness, but on other occasions it can be used to boost confidence and bring a feeling of power and control.

In the home, black will fit with almost any design or colour scheme. It can help other colours stand out, and adds some depth and contrast, making it the ideal colour to have in your home, but only in small amounts. Too much black can have a negative impact and cause feelings of moodiness and depression.

Black

Introducing black into your home in the form of accessories and ornaments is the ideal solution. So we've picked some of our favourite products which include the colour black.

Power

In color psychology black means power and control, which is why it is worn by people in business. Someone who is dressed in black radiates a sense of confidence and authority, but on the other hand, can often seem unfriendly and approachable.

The use of the colour black can also boost your confidence at times of low self-esteem, such as feeling nervous before an important meeting or interview, or for teenagers who feel excluded from peer groups.

Black can help you regain a sense of control, so our Twinings tea cup is a great way to help restore your feelings of power and strength.

 Twinings tea cup

Protection

Because black can absorb energy, it is often used for protection against negative energy or evil spirits. We also use black to hide from the outside world, whether it's by wearing black to make yourself look more slim, or to disguise your feelings of insecurity.

Black can bring comfort against emotional stress, so place our Lustrous Night candle set in your home to reduce feelings of anxiety.

Lustrous Night

Mystery and intrigue

Black represents the unknown, which makes it mysterious and intriguing. This translates into it being a secretive colour which doesn't reveal any feelings or personality. On the other hand, the mystery surrounding the colour black means it is often used in a seductive manner, such as with sexy lingerie.

Our An Enchanted Moon mug is certainly mysterious and intriguing.

An enchanted mood

Elegance

Black is often seen as a sophisticated colour, which gives an impression of elegance and style. Many events specify a "black tie" dress code, which is perceived as the height of luxury and refinement, while the "little black dress" has remained a fashion mainstay for decades.

You will feel sophisticated and elegant with our In The Night wine glass set.

In The Night

Death/mourning

Traditionally, black is worn as a mark of respect for someone who has died, both at funerals and during periods of mourning. Black represents the grief and emptiness felt by friends and relatives of the deceased. In Victorian times, widows were expected to dress in black for a number of years following the death of their husband, but thankfully nowadays the wearing of black is usually confined to the funeral ceremony.

Giving a black candle such as our Noir In The Night candle makes an ideal gift to show your respects to the bereaved family.

Light Up Your Garden Party With Candles And Tea Lights April 25, 2016 12:21

Now that we're well into Spring, the temperature is really starting to warm up. That can only mean one thing: the time for barbecues and garden parties is almost upon us. Whether you want to enjoy a relaxing meal with family, or have a full-blown party with all your friends, it's important that you set the mood to make your guests relax and feel comfortable.

We've put together this list of decorative ideas to make your next garden party really light up. By simply placing a few strategic candles, you can make your outdoor space suddenly transform into a tropical haven for your guests to enjoy.

Plant pot holders

If you're a keen gardener, then you're bound to have plenty of spare plant pots lying around. For smaller plant pots, simply add a tea light to each one, and place these around the garden, or use a larger plant pot with multiple candles to create a focal point.

Blooming Colourful Tea Lights:

Glass jars

Glass jars make ideal candle holders for garden parties, and it doesn't matter if they get knocked over or broken. Plus recycling is good for the environment! You can place the glass jar holders around the table and patio, or if you're feeling creative, tie them around fence posts and have them hanging from branches.

Kaleidoscopic Rainbow tea lights:

Table centerpiece

If your garden party involves sitting down for a meal, then decorate your table using pillar candles. These burn for hours and will last well into the evening, even after the sun goes down.

Seashell candle holders

If you live near the sea, washed up shells make great candle holders which don't cost you anything at all! Large shells work best, and you can add a tea light candle to each one, and place on your table or around the garden.

Flower Party candles:

Outdoor lanterns

Lanterns are easily available from most home and garden stores, and can help create some luxurious lighting for your garden. Lanterns come in all shapes and sizes, with some only large enough to hold a single candle, or others where you can add a number of candles of varying height.

Flower Power pillar candle:

Votive Feature

If you have a large glass bowl or vase, you can turn this into a stunning feature that's sure to wow your guests. Fill the container with water, and add some attractive stones or coloured sand to the bottom. Then simply float some tea lights on top to create a simple but effective centrepiece. You could even add some cut flowers or twigs from the garden.

Sweet Opulence tea lights:

Guiding lights

If you're expecting a number of guests, lead the way to the party by placing tea lights or pillar candles along the edge of the pathway, guiding them to the location.

Flower Love pillar candle:

Light up your water feature

If you have a water feature or pond in your garden, then make it really stand out using candles. Place some pillar candles or tea lights on the water feature itself, or in and around the feature to make the water glisten in the candle light. If you have a pond, you could even float some tea lights on the surface of the water, to create a romantic effect.

Roses Are Red: The Hidden Meanings Of The Colour Red April 20, 2016 17:25

Red is a colour of extremes. On one hand it can represent love and passion, while on the other hand it can symbolise anger and the destruction of war. Red is also the colour of fire and blood; two vital life forces which are essential to the human existence. Because of this, red was regarded by our ancestors as a mystical and powerful colour.

Red is a complex colour with lots of hidden secrets and meanings. We've chosen some of our favourite red products to help illustrate the qualities of the colour red.

Sexual Desire

One of the most obvious associations with the colour red is the idea of sexual desire. Red is often used in modern culture to evoke feelings of an erotic nature – red lipstick, the red light district, the lady in red.

The colour red can increase our heart rate and blood flow, which in turn helps create feelings of passion, desire and lust. On the other hand, pink is a much softer colour which represents innocent love.

If you want to inject some passion into your life, try introducing some red candles, such as our Queen Ruby pillar candle.

Queen Ruby candle

Danger

Red is one of the most visible of all the colours, which is why road signs and stop lights are usually this colour. Red is emotionally intense, which is why it is so appropriate that it is used to indicate dangers or warnings. Red grabs your attention and makes sure that you notice.

Our Rouge fun champagne flutes aren't dangerous, unless you get too drunk!

Rouge fun champagne flutes

War

Red is the colour of anger and aggression which can be used in a destructive way, such as in war. Red is also the colour of fire, which consumes everything in its path.

Red is also the colour of remembrance, and symbolises the red poppy fields of World War I, as well as the blood of the soldiers who were killed.

Make love not war, with our Branching For Love mugs.

Energy

Red can ignite our emotions and inspire us to take action. It gives us energy and determination due to its link with our emotions and physical desires. Red is the colour of fire and blood; two vital energies which help create and sustain human life.

Give yourself a morning energy boost with our Scarlet Swirls mug.

Good Luck

Red is one of the most popular colours in Asia because it is associated with good luck. Chinese brides traditionally wear red as it means the marriage is more likely to prosper, while in Japan a red kimono symbolises happiness and good luck. In India and Nepal brides wear red because it represents purity.

Our Red Velvet pillar candle would make an ideal wedding gift, and it can also be personalised with the couple's names.

Springtime Tea and Coffee Ideas to Quench Your Thirst April 18, 2016 15:07

Here in the UK, our morning cuppa is something of an institution that we can't live without. Even the thought of skipping your tea or coffee is enough to make your blood run cold. But, it can get a little boring, having the same drink day in, day out.

Why not mix up your usual morning drink by trying one of these great tea and coffee recipes? We've taken inspiration from the season, to come up with this list of 7 great drinks for Springtime. All of them are delicious, and can be enjoyed in the morning, or at any time of day.

Jasmine Tea

Jasmine tea originates in China, and is a fragrant green tea, scented by the floral aroma of the jasmine plant. It's sweet floral scent is ideal for this time of year, and the tea can be enjoyed either hot or cold. Jasmine tea usually comes in loose-leaf form, and is available from most supermarkets and specialist Asian stores. Simply pour water over the tea leaves and allow to brew for a few minutes, strain and serve.

Our Tea Garden teacup is inspired by oriental flower gardens, so is ideal to enjoy a cup of Jasmine tea.

Tea Garden personalised tea cup

Cold Brewed Coffee

Cold Brewed coffee is much less acidic than hot-brewed coffee, and because of this it has a natural sweetness. Also, because the coffee is already cold, you won't dilute it so much when you add the ice, so it will retain a strong coffee flavour. Simply pour cold water  over some fresh coffee grounds, and leave to infuse at room temperature for 18-24 hours. Then strain and transfer to the refrigerator. Serve as is, or add ice.

You might think cold coffee is madness, but don't knock it until you've tried it. It's an ideal drink for this time of year, and would look great served in our Mandala Madness mug.

White Chocolate Mocha

Although the weather is warming up, there are some days in Spring when only a hot drink will do. To make a white chocolate mocha, warm some milk in a saucepan and add a few drops of vanilla extract. In a mug or latte glass, mix together an espresso with ¼ cup of white chocolate chips until melted. stir in the warm milk mixture and add sugar to taste. For an extra-indulgent treat, top with whipped cream.

This drink is a real hug in a mug – so why not serve it in our Hug In A Mug latte glass?

hug in a mug latte glass

Matcha Green Tea Latte

Matcha Green Tea is one of the latest in healthy drinks, due to its antioxidant properties. But instead of just making a regular green tea, matcha powder can also be used in lattes. Warm some milk (or soy milk) in a saucepan. In a mug or cup, add a scoop of matcha powder, and add some boiling water until it forms a thin paste. Pour over the warm milk and stir until combined. Add honey or agave syrup to taste.

We think our Breaking Waves teacup is perfect for enjoying a matcha latte.

breaking waves teacup

Classic Sweet Tea

Sweet Tea is a staple drink in the deep south of the USA, and every family has their own recipe. Because the weather is so warm in Spring and Summer, hot drinks are definitely off the menu, so they make this chilled tea instead. Add 10-12 teabags to a pitcher or jug, and pour over boiling water. Let the tea brew for about 6 minutes, then remove the teabags and allow to cool. To serve, add ice cubes, and sweeten with honey or sugar syrup.

This drink is traditionally served in a clear glass, rather than a teacup or mug, so try our Initial Me Once latte glass.

Thai Iced Coffee

This is an exotic twist on a classic iced coffee, and uses Thai-inspired flavourings to really give a kick! Add 3-4 cardamom pods to your ground coffee, and brew as normal. Add a teaspoon of almond extract, and sugar to taste. Allow to cool. To serve, fill a mug 2/3 of the way with the coffee mixture, add some crushed ice, then top with a heaped spoonful of whipped cream. Delicious!

Our Tropical Delight mug is the perfect mug to complement the tropical flavours of this Thai coffee.

BulletProof Coffee

Another health trend at the moment is adding a scoop of butter or coconut oil to your morning coffee. Not only does it give you a huge energy boost to help you get through the day, but it's actually thought to help you lose weight. Bulletproof coffee helps kick-start the fat-burning part of your metabolism, meaning that fats are processed more quickly by the body. Now is the time to start getting in shape for Summer, so why not try this and let us know if it works!?

If you've tried a bulletproof coffee in the morning, then you'll have to try our Thirst Things First mug.

Unique Wedding Ideas With Personalised Wine Glasses & Champagne Flutes April 15, 2016 12:30

Your wedding day is one of the most significant days of your life, so it's important that you make the day personal to you and your partner. Nobody wants their wedding to be one of those "cookie cutter" weddings, where everything is the same as someone else's wedding. You want everything to stand out and be memorable, and one way of doing that is adding personal touches when it comes to things like decorations and favours.

We've come up with 5 different ways you can incorporate personalised wine glasses into your wedding, to create something unique for you and your partner. All of our wine glasses can be personalised with a name, date, personal message, or choice of colours

 Decorative champagne flutes

His and Hers Wine Glasses

Our Drunk In Love wine glasses, as the name suggests, are all about love and romance, so are ideal to incorporate into your wedding. You could add names, dates, or a simple "Mr___" and "Mrs___" for an extra special touch. Enjoy your first drink together as a married couple either while travelling to the reception venue, or during the meal. These can then be used as a keepsake to remind you of your special day.

Personalised favours for the bridesmaids

It's customary to give a  gift of appreciation to your bridesmaids, and one way you can do this is with personalised champagne flutes. We can add each of your bridesmaids' names to any champagne flute, and even incorporate the colours of your wedding, to make this gift truly unique. Enjoy a glass of fizz together while getting ready for the ceremony, or present these to your bridesmaids during the speeches.

Ebony and Ivy champagne flutes:

Sweet Buffet

One trend that has really caught on in recent years is having a sweet or candy buffet, to keep the kids happy (and some of the adults too!) For something a bit different to the norm, try setting up the buffet with different sized wine glasses and champagne flutes, with a different type of candy in each. This makes for a more sophisticated and grown-up look. Plus all of our glassware can be personalised with the names of the bride and groom, or the date of the wedding.

Orange Fizz Champagne flutes:

Create a unique table centrepiece

Long gone are the days when all you needed for your centrepiece was a display of flowers. These days pretty much anything goes, including feathers, bird cages, and even live fish! One way you can create a stand-out centrepiece for your table is to use personalised wine glasses. Turn a wine glass upside down, place a flower inside the glass, and put a candle on top, or fill different wine glasses with glass beads or coloured sand.

Rainbow Sky wine glasses:

Evening Snacks

Save yourself cash by scrapping the evening buffet, and just place some snacks on each table instead. Use our personalised wine glasses to create a sophisticated display, instead of paper plates or polystyrene bowls. You could fill each wine glass with a different snack, and things such as nuts, breadsticks, olives and crudités work great.

Bright As Yellow: The Hidden Meanings Behind The Colour April 13, 2016 13:00

Yellow is one of the brightest colours of the spectrum, and helps capture our attention more than any other colour. It is the colour of sunshine, and is associated with joy and happiness. Yellow can also have a warming effect, and help us organise our thoughts and ideas.

In the natural world, yellow is one of the predominant colours, and appears everywhere from flowers to foods and even animals.

You can't help but feel bright and cheerful when surrounded by the colour yellow. So we've picked out some of our favourite yellow products to help illustrate some of the deeper meanings of the colour yellow:

Joy and happiness

The colour yellow is uplifting to the spirit, creating a feeling of joy, happiness, enthusiasm and fun. Yellow also provides a feeling of optimism and confidence about your life and your future. This is because it is the brightest and lightest colour on the spectrum, so this light has a positive influence on the mind and body.

We have incorporated yellow into our Daisy Pop wine glasses, so no matter what you are drinking you're sure to feel happy and joyful. Plus the yellow highlights really do make the design go "pop!"

Daisy pop wine glasses

Intellect

Yellow helps stimulate the mind, making it a great colour to help you focus while studying. It helps with logic and quick decision-making, and can inspire deep thinking. Yellow is mostly associated with the left side of the brain, which is the analytical side. In that sense, yellow is more about problem solving and finding practical solutions, rather than dreamy thoughts.

Get your day off to the right start with our Rise and Shine mug. A coffee from this mug will definitely get your mind working.

Rise and shine coffee mug

Warmth

Yellow is a warming colour, but it lacks the fiery heat and passion of red. That's because yellow is non-emotional, coming from the head instead of the heart. As well as having a physically warming effect, yellow can also warm the emotions due to its association with being happy and carefree. This makes it a good choice for home decor, in small amounts. Perhaps consider painting an accent wall in yellow to really create a focal point for the room. Beware of painting children's bedrooms in yellow though, as it's said to make children cry more than any other colour.

Add a touch of warmth to your home with our Pleasing Paisley tea light candles.

 pleasing paisley tealight candle

Communication

Because of its association with intellect and new ideas, yellow is also representative of communication and clarity of thought. Yellow can help us to focus and recall information, making it easier to communicate our ideas, either orally or on paper. Many students find it helps to use yellow notepads for exams and revision, as it helps them recall and articulate their ideas more effectively.

Communicate your appreciation to a special friend or loved one with our Thanks A Latte personalised latte glass.

Thanks A Latte glass

Attention-seeking

Yellow is an effective colour for attracting attention, because it is the colour which is picked up quickest by our retinas and peripheral vision. That's the reason New York taxi cabs are painted yellow, as well as warning signs, especially when yellow is combined with black.

In the home, yellow can be used to highlight a focal point for the room, because it is so good at attracting attention.

Our Tropical Disco tea lights will definitely grab your attention, wherever you place them in your home.

DIY Candle Stands Using Items Found Around The House April 11, 2016 13:22

Our Personalised candles are among the most popular products we have here at Designsbynn, and one question we often get asked by our customers is "how can I create a unique candle display in my home?"

pillar candles

There are many different ways you can display a candle, you just have to use a bit of creativity. Of course, you can purchase candlesticks and candle stands from most home stores, but if you want something that really is unique, the best thing is to make it yourself. We thought it would be fun to use items that people already have lying around the house, to come up with this list of DIY candle stands.

Cake Stands

Cake stands are ideally suited for candles, and you can probably pick one up cheap from a charity shop, if you don't already have one at home.

Choose a selection of candles in varying heights, and bunch them together in the centre of the cake stand. For an extra special twist, you could add flowers or branches around the outside of the display. Either use colours to match your home, or vary according to the season.

We think pillar candles such as our Floral Sunset (pictured) look best, but this would work for any type of candle.

Floral sunset pillar candle

Charger Plates

Like cake stands, charger plates can be used to group candles together to create a focal point for your display. Either use pillar candles of varying height, or try using tea light candles along with decorative beads or stones for something a bit different. You could also use a shallow bowl instead of a plate, and fill it with coloured sand.

Make your own charger plate using a vintage or decorative plate. Or alternatively, we have a range of charger plate and candle sets, which can be personalised and decorated however you choose.

Wine Glasses

Believe it or not, upturned wine glasses can be used instead of candle stands, and it makes a great display for a table or centrepiece. Simply turn a wine glass upside down, and place a pillar candle on top, such as our A Mother's Sparkle option (pictured). For the finishing touch, add a flower underneath each wine glass.

Teacups

Use decorative cups and saucers to make a unique candle display that will definitely get people talking. Turn the teacup upside down, place the saucer on top, and then that's your stand ready for any candle of your choice.

Vintage cups and saucers are easily available from second-hand shops, or why not choose from our selection of personalised cups and saucers?

Sticks and twigs

Most people will probably have sticks and twigs lying around in the garden, but if not they are easy to find on a foraging expedition into the woods. There are hundreds of things you can do with these, you just have to use your imagination.

Try weaving smaller twigs together to create a sort of nest display for your candles. You can even add things like pine cones and berries to make it look seasonal. Or why not saw different lengths of logs or branches to display candles of a similar type? Our Regal Rose candle set would look great.

The World Of Henna: Inspiration I Found In April April 10, 2016 00:00

April is here and with that I am here to share my inspiration posts I found this month! As I have said before inspiration is everywhere. You may think it’s not but it can be found in the simplest things around us. I love the world around us it has so much to offer and inspire each and every one of us. Let’s go!

Umbrella  Art

How beautiful are these embroidered umbrellas? They shout inspiration! The colours and patterns on the umbrellas are just intricate and amazing to look at.  I found this picture on Pinterest and wanted to share it with the world. The bright pink/purple and gold just bring so many ideas to my head for new product designs!

Cushion Beautiful

I was in Primark a couple of weeks ago when I saw this large throw pillow and fell in love! The colours and patterns attracted me the most to it. I am drawn towards pink and mint green at the moment so that may have been why I ended up buying it. The pattern is based on a Mandala design which is very popular at the moment.  I will be taking elements of this design and adding it to my future products.

Flower Power Gerbera

Gerberas are my favourite flower and the colours are just so beautiful! The shape of the petals and the intricate dots make this flower so gorgeous. I have previously used this flower design on some bespoke jumbo tea lights for a customer. The design on the petals of the flower can be a great source of inspiration. You can find it on many flowers.

Clothing Has Me Every time

Who doesn’t love a pretty Indian outfit? I know I do! I don’t just love it for the colours but the intricate patterns which are hand sewn and made with love. This amazing mint and pink gown is from Pinterest. I found it a couple of weeks ago and have used it in new product designs which you guys will see soon!

Light Brings In Happiness

I am a sucker for tea lights, especially anything which has coloured glass and gold finishing! These were found in Primark. I am going to be using these in product pictures and other cool shoots. The design just screams Morocco and would look lovely in the back garden on a nice summers evening.

The Rite Of Spring: Reasons We Love This Time Of Year April 08, 2016 11:30

Springtime is one of our favourite times of year, as new life starts to emerge after the long and cold winter. New leaves and flowers appear on the trees, adding colour to the landscape. Animals awake from hibernation, and chicks hatch from their eggs.

We take a lot of inspiration from the seasons of the year, and try to translate these into our products. People often feel much happier and upbeat at this time of year, so we've tried to bear this in mind with our designs, and create a sense of lightness and colour. Here are our favourite things about springtime, along with our favourite springtime products

Light Mornings

Now that the clocks have changed, we look forward to the lighter mornings and being awoken by the sunrise. Through winter, many of us arrive at work during the hours of darkness, so the light mornings are a welcome return.

You'll feel lighter and brighter in the morning with our Good Morning Sunshine latte glass.

New Life

As we mentioned, Spring is the season of new life, whether it's in the animal world with animals being born and awakening from hibernation, or in the plant kingdom with green leaves and flowers emerging. Here in the UK, the winters are long and bleak, so the arrival of spring is an exciting time of year.

We took inspiration from spring flowers – snowdrops and daffodils – to create this Graceful Delight latte glass. It can also be personalised with a name or date.

Flowers Emerge

What's your favourite colour of flower? At this time of year you're likely to see a whole array of different coloured plants and flowers, transforming the landscape from the bare branches of winter. From pink cherry blossoms, to yellow daffodils, and red tulips, the landscape is vibrant and enchanting.

Our Flower Party candle set is bursting with floral decorations, just like the outdoors during Springtime.

Colours

Winter is cold and dark, and can usually be characterised by shades of grey. Spring, on the other hand, is bright and colourful as flowers and blossoms erupt into bloom. The sky becomes bright blue, and the sun casts a bright glow over the landscape, transforming everything it touches.

Celebrate the arrival of Spring with our Rainbow Love champagne flutes, inspired by the bright colours of the season.

Happiness

People generally feel a lot brighter and happier in the Springtime. The weather starts to heat up; mornings and evenings are much lighter; and everyone starts planning holidays and excursions for the approaching summer. There is a feeling of excitement in the air, which makes this one of our favourite times of year.

Happy days are here again with our Happy Days teacup and saucer set.

Paisley Designs: The Beauty Behind Them And More! April 08, 2016 11:11

The paisley design is a very pretty pattern and one that catches the eye instantly! In the beginning of my henna career I would always practise to draw the paisley design over and over. It seemed to always attract me and I would fill it in with all kinds of intricate designs. It plays a big part in my designs as you will see on my website. Many of my products have paisley inspired designs on them and I love each of them.

The Meaning

Paisley is a term in English for a design using the Buta, a droplet-shaped motif of Persian origin. The popularity of the paisley became apparent in the west around 18th and 19th centuries. In the west you know the name as paisley and this derives from the town of paisley in west Scotland. It was a popular centre for textiles where many paisley designs were produced. It has become very popular within Asian clothing and a lot of the saris have magnificent paisley borders sewn on by hand! You will see this design in many countries. This pattern is very versatile and moves with the times. This is a pattern which will never die down and will continue to grow and grow!

Paisley

I am going to be sharing a few of my henna designs where I have incorporated a paisley design and how they can be designed.

Tattoo Paisley

Starting off with a tattoo I designed for my manager early on in my henna career. I was always doodling at work and my senior manager would always comment on my drawings and say how much she would one day love to have it on her skin. She came to me and asked I design a paisley and flower inspired tattoo and this was the end result. It’s crazy to see your work on someone’s skin permanently. One moment in my life I will never forget! Here is an image of the tattoo in all its glory.

Henna Tattoo

Peacock Paisley

My niece has always been a big fan of peacocks and when I was designing this I used the paisley as a base to begin the henna design.  I used the tail of the paisley to create a face and then added a small dash like line under the head to create an eye. I added the peacocks head piece on top and voila we have a peacock henna design based on a simple paisley design. She was in love with the end result and wanted one crawling up her leg which we plan to do in the next couple of weeks.

Peacock Henna

Paisley Me

Here is a pattern which I designed on myself whilst thinking of new product ideas. I have used flower and paisley designs together with leaf like additions. I was in love with it for days! If you would like to have some henna yourself then you can contact me via the website and I would be more than happy to discuss your appointment.

Green with Envy: Hidden Meanings of the colour Green April 06, 2016 17:59

The colour green has long been thought to have some sort of supernatural healing quality, because of its ability to evoke calmness and relaxation. Green is also abundant in plants and grass, so is associated with life and the natural world. These qualities make green a popular choice when it comes to home decoration.

image: Pixabay

There are lots more qualities of the colour green. Here are some more hidden meanings, along with some of our favourite green products. All of our products can be personalised with your own name or message.

Renewal

Green is the colour of renewal and rebirth, through its association with nature. Green is the colour of springtime and indicates new life. It allows us to see things from a new perspective and make a fresh start. In this sense, green can also represent a lack of experience or immaturity.

Our Henna Garden pillar candle is inspired by nature and is decorated with multi-coloured flowers

Wellbeing

Green can affect our physical and mental wellbeing in a number of ways. It is a great soother of the emotions and can help alleviate anxiety and depression, as well as bringing a balance between the head and the heart. Green is the colour of the heart centre chakra, and it is also associated with peace, and a feeling of safety.

A cup of tea from our No.1 Mum mug will surely make you feel calm and relaxed.

no.1 Mum personalised mug

Envy

We've all heard the phrase "green with envy" which is one of the negative traits of the colour green. Another manifestation of this is the term "green-eyed monster" to mean jealousy. The reason for this negative aspect is that green is the colour of money, so it represents greed and selfish desire

Visitors to your home are bound to feel envious when they see this Lime Blush ball candle.

Calmness

Because green is the colour of the heart centre, it is a colour used often in meditation to relax and calm the body and mind. Green is also a combination of yellow and blue, so it takes on the attributes of those colours. Blue is renowned for having a calming influence, while yellow represents mental clarity.

Our Enchanted Eden candle can either be used in mediation, or just as a relaxing focal point in your room.

Wealth

Green is the colour of prosperity and wealth, and encourages the need to own more materialist possessions. This is because of green's association with money, and the term "greenback" which refers to a US dollar bill.

Our Teal Temptation pillar candle might not bring you wealth, but it would be a welcome addition in any home.

Hope

Finally, green is an inspirational and uplifting colour which brings hope for the future, through its association with wealth. The phrase "greener pastures" is often used to mean the hope of something better in future. In Ireland, green is associated with the four leaf clover, a symbol of good luck.

Our Vibrant Celebration candle set will bring you good luck, during Diwali, and for the rest of the year.

Products Inspired By Traditional Henna Styles And Designs April 04, 2016 18:31

One of our specialities at Designsbynn is bridal henna, or mehndi, where we take our inspiration from a variety of sources to create unique designs for brides and members of the wedding party. Some of our designs are inspired by traditional henna styles, while others are taken from patterns we find in nature, or in exotic fabrics. Each design we produce is completely unique.

mandala henna on hand

It's the same for all of our products - Each can be adapted with your own words or colour choices to create something personal to you. Since henna is such an important part of what we do, we decided to incorporate some traditional henna styles into our products, which I hope you will enjoy.

Floral Henna

Floral henna can incorporate different types of flower, and so is a very versatile design. Flowers are also feminine and so this type of henna is popular for both bridal mehndi and various henna painting events. Our Heavy Henna pillar candle incorporates a floral-based henna design.

 heavy henna candle

Paisley

The teardrop or fig-shaped motif of Paisley print fabric actually originated in Persia (Iran) hundreds of years ago, but gets its name from the city of Paisley in Scotland where it was later mass-produced. Our Orangina pillar candle has a simple paisley design, with additional embellishments.

Orangina pillar candle

Ivy

The inspiration for ivy henna comes from the ivy plant in nature. The way it climbs and twists and weaves lends itself to the types of bridal mehndi we apply up the arms or feet of the bride. Our Ebony And Ivy champagne flutes would be ideal for a celebratory drink at a wedding or engagement party.

Swirl

Swirls are a very adaptable design, and could represent waves crashing, plant leaves, or whatever your imagination allows. In henna patterns, the swirls can be used as the main part of the design, or can be used as a filler for shapes and embellishments. We used plenty of swirls in our Scarlet Swirls mug.

Mandala

The mandala is a sacred symbol which represents the universe. It can be seen in many religious buildings and artwork, and more recently this type of design is becoming popular as a design for tattoos. It is a very popular design for bridal henna, because of the spiritual meaning. We incorporated lots of mini-mandalas into our Mandala Madness mug.

Creative Ideas And Uses For Tea Light Candles April 01, 2016 14:30

Where does a tea light get its name? Well originally, they were used in teapot warmers to maintain the temperature of tea.

Here at Designsbynn, some of our most popular products include tea light candles. We probably all have lots of these lying around at home, for use at parties or whenever we want to create a bit of ambient lighting.

There are lots of things you can do with tea light candles, which don't involve warming tea! Here are some creative uses for tea light candles:

Make your own decorative candle holders

Decorate a tin can by piercing holes in a pattern of your choice. Or add jewels and decorations to a simple glass jar, for an inexpensive candle holder that looks a million dollars.

Create garden lighting

Place tea light candles in flower pots or mason jars, to create some mood lighting for your garden party. Our Sunset Soiree tea lights would be perfect.

Keep your food warm

Many restaurants use tea light candles to keep your food warm, after it is served. This is most common in Indian and Asian cuisine.

Decorate the outside of tea light candles

Using different coloured or patterned sticky tape (available from craft stores).

Make your own scented candles

Cut the top off any type of citrus fruit, and scoop out the flesh. Insert a tea light candle, and voila! The citrus scent will soon fill the room.

Use candle stands

Use varying heights of tea light candles to create a visually stunning lighting effect.

Go natural

Drill holes into a sliced log, to create your very own rustic table centerpiece that will keep your guests talking.

Wall art

You can buy a range of wall art pieces from most DIY shops now, which allow you to add tea light candles. For some extra pizzazz you need a boldly designed tea light such as our Tropical Disco

 Tropical disco tea lights

Trick or Treat

Tea lights are great to use for halloween lanterns for kids, or you can make your own autumn-inspired pumpkin lamps.

Bring the outdoors in

Create a display with fresh garden flowers and tea light candles. Either pick your own flowers from the garden, or use shop-bought ones.

Make a pathway

Have tea lights along a pathway or corridor to create a romantic effect. This could be used at a wedding or party, or even at home to create a surprise for your husband or wife.

Spell a name

It could be the name of your lover, or a simple message, such as "I Luv U" You'll need a lot of tea lights for this, so we recommend one of our packs of 20, such as Rangoli Madness

 Rangoli madness

Build your own heater

In case of a power cut, you can build your own heater out of nothing more than flower pots, tea lights, and a loaf tin. Find out how

Wine glass lamps

Place a tea light inside a wine glass to create an easy display for your dinner table.

Give the illusion of more candles

By placing mirrors behind your tea light candles, it will look as though you have twice the amount!

Create a romantic atmosphere

Scatter tea lights around the room, or place in glass jars or candle holders to create some romantic mood lighting. Your partner will surely be impressed. Our Queen of Hearts tea light set are ideal to convey the romantic theme.

Queen of hearts tea lights

Have a spa day

Place tea lights around the room, or use in an oil burner with some soothing lavender oil. Then give your partner a sensual massage.

Eat Fondue

Tea lights are great for keeping things like fondue warm. You don't have to limit it to cheese though – the possibilities are endless. Try dipping marshmallows and strawberries into melted chocolate!

Make them float

Tea light candles will float in water, so get creative using your imagination. A big glass bowl works well, or even tall glasses filled with flowers or beads then topped up with water.

Unwind in a relaxing bath

Make it even more special by adding your favourite scented oils and placing tea lights around the bathroom.

Make a chandelier

Get crafty and build your own chandelier using wood, wire, or whatever materials you can find. Add tea lights candles for the finishing touch. Our Divine Sparkle tealights would look divine!

In The Pink -  The Hidden Meaning Behind The Colour March 30, 2016 14:44

We all know pink as being playful, girlie and romantic, but there are many hidden meanings of the colour pink. Pink is mixed using red and white, so it takes on many of the characteristics of those colours too, from the fiery passionate associations of red, to the calming and peaceful influence of white. Even the shade and intensity of the colour pink can alter the meaning.

pink flower

To illustrate some of the characteristics of the colour pink, we've chosen some of our favourite pink products:

Romance

While red represents lust and passion, the colour pink represents a more charming and romantic side of love. The deeper the shade of pink, the more passion and energy is associated with it, while a lighter shade of pink can communicate tenderness.

Our Pinking Tea Party teacup combines the romance of the colour pink with the romantic symbolism of the love heart, making it the ideal gift for a loved one.

Cuteness / Playfulness

The colour pink is associated with childhood, especially little girls, which means it evokes memories of sweetness and innocence. For adults, pink means that you're playful and carefree. You enjoy abandoning your adult responsibilities, and revel in fun and joy.

Our Sherbet Fizz tealight candles will take you back to your childhood, and bring feelings of fun and joy.

Serenity

Pink has a calming influence, and reassures our emotions bringing about a sense of serenity and relaxation. It can help alleviate feelings of anger and aggression, and promote inner peace and harmony. Pink gemstones and crystals are thought to have an inner energy which can promote this calming influence.

Our Misty Rose pillar candle is adorned with pink gems, so is sure to bring a feeling of peace and relaxation to your home, or it would make a great gift for someone going through a stressful time.

Nurturing

Pink also represents unconditional love, nurturing and compassion. It inspires warm and comforting feelings, which is why pink is associated with giving and receiving care. If a person wears a lot of pink, it could also indicate the need for support and acceptance.

Show your mother how much you appreciate her caring and nurturing side, with our Amore Mother mug.

Femininity

Pink is associated with women and femininity because it tones down the passion of red, and gives a much gentler loving energy. Pink shows kindness, tenderness and nurturing, which are all considered female qualities.

The pink swirling design of our Candy Oasis pillar candle is brightly coloured and bold as well as feminine.

Tenderness

Pink is a non-threatening colour which gives you the feeling that everything will be okay. It is much gentler than red, and shows tenderness and kindness and feelings of warmth, through its association with femininity and nurturing.

Our Midnight Pink tea light candles will bring a gentle and tender warmth to your home.

What Is The Meaning And Symbolism Behind Each Type Of Flower? March 28, 2016 19:44

Here at Designsbynn we love to decorate our products with floral designs. But did you know that different flowers have different meanings?

Daisies

(image: Pixabay)

Flower symbolism and meanings come from a variety of sources. Some derive from ancient folklore and have been passed down through generations. Other flower meanings come from rituals and tradition.

Here are some of the meanings behind our floral designs:

Buttercups

The buttercup is a yellow flower which is usually found growing in grassy meadows and gardens throughout the summer months. In North America, buttercups are known as "Coyote's Eyes" due to a folk legend where a coyote made new eyes out of buttercups, after his own were taken by an eagle.

Here in the UK, buttercups symbolise childishness due to the traditional game where you hold a buttercup underneath someone's chin, to find out whether they like butter. The yellow glow from the buttercup inspired our Buttercup Blush mug.

Buttercup blush mug

Ivy

Ivy gets its name from the Celtic word for cord, and in Celtic tradition it is said to symbolise friendship and affection. The ivy plant twists and turns and interweaves, and that's the reason it is likened to friendship, and even romantic relationships.

In religion, the ivy plant symbolises eternal life, which is why it is often used to decorate homes at Christmas. But even if you are not religious, you are sure to admire our ivy-inspired Tropical Delight mug.

Roses

We all know that roses are a symbol of love. But you might not realise that the colour of the rose, and even the number of roses also have significance.

Red roses convey deep love and emotion, so our Roses Are Red latte glass is the ideal romantic gift for your partner. A single red rose is for love and desire, while a dozen red roses represent gratitude.

Roses are red latte glass

Daisies

The daisy represents cleanliness, purity and innocence, which is why we often say that we feel "fresh as a daisy." In Christianity, daisies are often associated with the Virgin Mary to represent her chastity and purity.

In Norse mythology, daisies are associated with Freya, the goddess of love. They are also said to represent motherhood and childbirth, making our Daisy Pop wine glasses the ideal gift for a new mother.

Daisy pop wine glasses

Sunflowers

Most of the symbolism around sunflowers comes from its association with the sun itself. The sunflower represents adoration, longevity, loyalty and even nourishment.

Sunflowers are also regarded as symbols of happiness, with their bright yellow flowers and sun-like appearance, which makes our Rise and Shine mug the perfect gift to brighten someone's day.

Purple Passion: Origins and Meanings Behind The Colour Purple March 25, 2016 12:00

In nature, purple is a relatively rare colour, and only occurs naturally in a handful of flowers and plants. Perhaps this is why we think of it as having some sort of supernatural and magical property.

Purple has lots of meanings, depending on the brightness and shade. Lilac is thought to be feminine and romantic, while a dark shade of purple can convey a deep level of thinking and knowledge. In fact, of all the colours, purple has the most variation in its meanings.

purple flower

Here we have selected some of our favourite purple products, to explore the meaning of the colour further.

Sacred

As we already mentioned, the colour purple doesn't occur very often in nature, especially here in the UK, which is why our ancestors thought of purple as having a sacred meaning. Flowers such as lavender and violets are considered precious and delicate.

Our product pick: Purple Paradise Tea lights. These candles combine purple and gold, for an extra special and sacred look.

purple paradise tealights

Royalty & Wealth

Historically, purple clothing was only worn by royalty, as the fabric dye was so expensive to produce. In Roman times, the dye was made from shellfish, and thousands of these were needed just to be able to dye a single item. Today, purple is still associated with wealth and luxury.

Our product pick: Our Golden Paradise wine glasses will certainly make you feel like royalty!

Golden paradise wine glasses

Spirituality

The third-eye chakra is associated with the colour purple, which means that it has a variety of effects on the body. Purple can help create feelings of spirituality, energise the body, and help oneself reach a higher level of consciousness, and alignment with the universe.

Our product pick: Majestic Violet tealights, which can be used during your meditation practice.

Imagination & Creativity

Purple contains a lot of blue tones, which represent clarity and wisdom. So purple can help improve your imagination and creativity. Purple is a very complex colour, and different shades and tints can have different meanings.

Our product pick: Our Purple Ivy mug will help fuel your creativity.

Magic & Mystery

Purple is a mysterious colour, connected closely to different types of cosmic rays, which gives it a sense of the supernatural. Wizards and magic people are often portrayed in film and literature as being dressed in purple.

Our product pick: Our Aladdin's Dream candle is inspired by magic and mystery.

Aladdin's Dream candle

Energy & Power

Purple is the most powerful colour in terms of electromagnetic energy. The wavelength of purple light is close to that of ultraviolet radiation, which we associate with the sun and the cosmos. Because purple is also made up of red and blue, it takes on the characteristics of these colours too.

Our Product Pick: Our Violet Blaze candle set contains both red and purple, for a truly powerful combination.

Creative Cocktail Ideas: Alternative Ways Of Serving Your Favourite Drinks! March 23, 2016 12:07

If you're looking for new ways of entertaining your guests, then one of the easiest ways of creating an interesting talking point is to use different types of glassware to serve your favourite drinks.

Here at Designsbynn, some of our bestselling products are our teacups and mugs, but who says you have to use them for tea and coffee?! We've selected some of our favourite cups, mugs and wine glasses, and paired them up with a classic cocktail, to give you some inspiration for the next time you host a party.

Daiquiri

A Daiquiri is one of the most popular cocktails of the moment as it combines the tropical flavours of lime juice and rum, to immediately transport you to a Caribbean beach. You can add any type of additional fruit flavour you like, and serve in our Tropical Tea cup which reflects the citrus and fruit colours.

Irish Coffee

An Irish Coffee is definitely a hug in a mug, as it packs a double-punch of caffeine and alcohol to get you through a hard day. So what better glass to serve it in, than our Hug In A Mug Latte Glass? To make the perfect Irish Coffee, add a shot of Irish whisky to your Latte, and top with whipped cream. Delicious.

Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan was made famous by the Sex And The City girls, who often enjoyed a Cosmo or two while out on the town. Traditionally these should be served in a martini glass, but we think our Darkness Falls Wine Glasses make a great alternative. Mix Vodka and Cointreau with cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime – and voila!

Darkness falls wine glass

Sex On The Beach

The name might be a little risque, but most of us have probably had a few of these on holiday in Tenerife or Magaluf! Mix vodka with peach schnapps, cranberry juice and orange juice, and serve in our Orange Fizz champagne glass.

Orange fizz

Gin Fizz

A Gin Fizz has an air of sophistication and elegance, a bit like our Breaking Waves teacup. Gin is hugely popular at the moment, so you're bound to be able to pick up a lovely bottle for a reasonable price. Mix with lemon juice and sugar, and top with soda.

Black Velvet

One of the more unusual drinks on our list, a black velvet consists of a stout ale (usually Guinness) topped with champagne. If you carefully pour the champagne it will sit on the top of the stout due to the difference in density of the liquid, which is where the cocktail gets its name. Serve in our Ebony and Ivy champagne flute.

Mimosa

A Mimosa is a classic combination of equal measures of champagne and orange juice. More familiar to us Brits is the Buck's Fizz, which contains two parts champagne to one part juice. This makes an ideal opening drink for a party, and is best served in our Mandala Mimosa Champagne flutes.

Birthday Gift Ideas For The Person Who Has Everything March 21, 2016 18:36

We all know at least one person, who is completely impossible to buy a birthday present for. Either they tell you that they just want a "surprise" or that they already have everything they need. Of course you're not just going to buy them nothing! So what do you do in that situation?

For people who already have everything they could ever want, it's better to think of gifts in terms of personal experiences. Instead of just handing them a wrapped parcel, create a day for them to remember. They will surely appreciate this much more.

Here are some birthday gift ideas for the person who has everything:

Surprise Party

A surprise party is definitely a gift to remember! It doesn't have to be anything too wild, just a gathering of a few friends or family members. One way to make the party truly memorable is to create a unique candle display using tea light candles. Either arrange them altogether, or place around the room to create some mood lighting. Our Rainbow Bliss pack of 20 tea lights really have that party vibe!

Personalised Candle

Here at Designsbynn we have a whole range of different shaped and sized candles, which can all be personalised with a name or personal message. This is a truly unique gift, which definitely doesn't run the risk of being something they already own, or being duplicated by someone else! The example below is our Floral Craze ball candle, which has had a "Happy Birthday" message added.

Breakfast in Bed

An oldie, but a goodie! Everyone enjoys being pampered on their birthday, so why not treat them to breakfast in bed? This is the ideal gift for your husband or wife, or even for parents, and it's so easy to prepare. For an extra-special touch, serve their coffee in their very own personalised latte glass, such as our First Initial example here.

Wine Tasting

There's nothing that tastes better than a delicious fine wine, especially when shared among friends. Choose a few bottles of various types of wine, and try to guess the different flavours without looking at the labels. To make the evening even more special for the birthday boy/girl, give them their very own personalised wine glass, such as our Midnight Rouge example below.

The World Of Henna: Inspiration I Found In March March 17, 2016 00:00

Inspiration never hides from me! Inspiration is everywhere! With so much inspiration found on social media, it’s hard not to miss. The two places I find my main inspiration from are Pinterest and Instagram. They both have tons of beautiful art circulating around. Other inspiration is found through nature, clothing and any random things I spot. I take pictures to keep a log of what I have found inspiring and look back when I am in need of a creative boost.  It keeps me growing as an artist and helps me improve my style! Today I am going to be sharing a few things that inspired me in the month of March. I hope you can also find some inspiration in the blog today.

Beautiful Lace Umbrellas

I have always been fond of lace and how it’s so intricate and looks so pretty. I was browsing through Pinterest and found these lace umbrellas someone had used as wedding props. Lace designs have become very popular within the henna community and many people have incorporated this gorgeous design into henna patterns.  I am yet to try this in my henna designs and product designs but it always inspires me to look at and get ideas from.

Lace Umbrellas

Bride And Groom Henna Designs

I have recently become obsessed with Indian bride and groom drawings. You will typically see these on ladies who are having bridal mehndi applied. It looks so beautiful in the centre of the palms surrounded by detailed patterns to bring out the design. I have been practising these by drawing them and making the guy look masculine and the women more feminine which can be tricky but with practise anything is possible.

Bride & Groom

Peacock Mania

Peacocks! I am in love with them and their beauty; I find them so attractive to look at and can’t stop drawing them. I found this little beauty on one of the wedding invites I ordered from India. I thought this was a good base for beginners if you’re into peacocks as much as me! I will be experimenting more with peacock inspired designs and want to incorporate them into my products more. I think it would look amazing on a candle or even a champagne flute!

Paisley Love

Another love of mine is paisley designs; here I have found some extravagant designs which look amazing in this colour combination. These were also designed on some wedding invites I ordered. I love the craftsmanship and it gives me so many ideas to work with!

Colour Focus: Gifts and Home Wares Inspired By The Colour Blue March 14, 2016 15:35

This week we have taken inspiration from the bright blue sky, which is something we are hoping to see much more of in the coming months. Blue is also the colour of the sea, and is associated with depth and stability as both the sky and see are vast and unchanging.

Blue is also a calming colour, and is thought to help with clarity of the mind and body. With that in mind, blue is a great colour to have in your home as it can provide a relaxing influence in your daily life.

The shade of blue you choose also makes a difference to the meaning and symbolism. Light blue represents tranquility and healing, while dark blue is associated with knowledge and wisdom. Blue is also thought of as having a masculine quality, but equally can be feminine – think of Mary from the nativity story, or Elsa from Disney's Frozen who both mix femininity with the colour blue.

We've selected some of our favourite products containing the colour blue. We hope that you enjoy these items as much as we do.

Ocean Blossom

Our Ocean Blossom mug is inspired by the colours of the sea, but we also chose a floral motif to make the design more feminine. You can add your name to the mug, to make it personal to you, or add a message if you're giving this as a gift.

Blooming Colourful

Flowers are one of our favourite designs, as they represent life, and nature, and they come in all sorts of glorious shapes and colours. Our Blooming Colourful Tealights have a deep navy flower with orange accents, and they come in packs of 10.

Blooming colourful

Regal Rose

Our Regal Rose candle set is inspired by royalty, so we have chosen a deep royal blue as the main colour, with gold accents to make it extra special. This is ideal for anyone who believes they are high class or descended from royalty, or for anyone who likes to add luxurious things to their home.

Regal rose candles

One Love

We chose a delicate swirling design for our One Love Teacup, which is decorated in a sky blue, with the word "Love" in a contrasting pink, which makes for a very pretty and feminine design. Alternatively you could add a name to make a personal gift.

One love teacup

Ocean Pearl

As the name suggests, our Ocean Pearl ball candle was inspired by the sea, and even has its own pearl embellishments, in-keeping with the theme. In this example we have used personalisation to create a  Thank You gift, but you can add your own name or message.

Mandala Designs: The Beauty Behind Them March 13, 2016 00:00

The beauty behind the mandala design is endless! It is such an attractive pattern that you don’t want to stop gazing at it. It’s definitely one of my favourite go to patterns and one that draws me in time and time again. I wanted to share the meaning behind the design and some examples of my work where I have taken inspiration from mandala designs.

Meaning Behind The Beauty

The Sanskrit meaning of mandala is circle and like a circle. It represents wholeness and is a symbol of perfection, eternity, unity and completeness. The distance from the centre to all the points remains the same and everything is symmetrical. In Hinduism it is mainly used as a spiritual tool. Mandala has also been part of other religions like, Buddhism and Christianity. The Christian religion uses this design in the rose windows of churches which represents important events. Buddhists use the mandala in meditation and religious rituals. Mandalas are considered as symbols of balance in the body and mind.

What It Means To Me

Whenever I spot a mandala design it instantly gets my attention and I visually start looking for parts of inspiration I can use in my work or in my henna designs.  I have so much love for this design and it has helped me endlessly with creating beautiful pieces.

Mandala Henna

Holiday Henna

Here is a henna bracelet design which I adorned on a lovely client who was on her travels and wanted something to show off! Once the stain has developed and gets darker it looks gorgeous! I decided to create a small mandala design which incorporated small fountain dashes which in turn gives the design definition and looks pretty. If you’re looking for a unique birthday gift ideas for one of your girlfriends then a henna appointment with me is a great idea! I can create a bespoke pattern for them and they will see this stain stay on for about 2/3 weeks depending on how well they keep to the aftercare advice.

Candle Art

Creating art on candles is one of my favourite things to do! I am always looking for new patterns to try out or even just to keep on my inspiration board. Here are two mandala inspired candles but based on floral elements. I have kept one quite metallic and it gives off a cooling tone and then the other one which is a more vibrant take on a tropical mandala design I saw on a holiday in Athens.

Wedding Anniversary Landmark Years: Which Gift To Give? March 11, 2016 13:00

We all know that for landmark wedding anniversary years, a gift should be given, made of the precious material for that year. It's easy enough for the first few years, with items such as cotton, paper, wool, and wood. But then as the years of wedlock advance, so do the materials evolve into precious metals and stones, such as rubies, gold and sapphires.

Of course, we can't all afford to give real gemstones as a wedding anniversary gift, so we've come up with this list of decorated candles, matching the theme for each of the landmark years. Candles are a great gift to give to a couple, as it makes a decorative focal point for their home, which they can enjoy all year round. All of our candle gifts can also be personalised with the couple's name, or a personal message, making our gifts truly unique.

Here's our guide to landmark wedding anniversary gifts:

9 years – Copper

Copper may seem like quite a strange material to gift someone, as traditionally it's used in wiring and plumbing. However copper gives off a lovely bronze coloured shine, which is why our A Mother's Sparkle candle makes a great alternative to giving someone a copper pipe. The wording can be changed to whatever you like.

25 years – Silver

Twenty-five years of marriage is an achievement, so it's only right that it's marked with something special. Our Pure Luxury tea light candles are luxurious and sensual, and are sure to match in with any type of home decor. The married couple can enjoy a romantic evening together with these tealights dotted around the room to create a warm glow.

Silver anniversary gift

30 years – Pearl

Pearls are sophisticated and classy, so it's fitting that you choose a wedding anniversary gift to match. Our Mother of Pearl candle set is embellished with pearls all over, so the couple is sure to get the connection. It also comes with an optional charger plate, to create a unique display in the home.

40 years – Ruby

Rubies are red, and red is the colour of love, so our Queen Ruby pillar candle is the ideal gift for a fortieth wedding anniversary. It is also decorated in gold and pearl to add a touch of luxury, and has a heart motif on the front, which again is the symbol of love and romance. Why not add the couple's name in the middle of the heart?

45 years - Sapphire

Our Royal Sapphire candles come in a set of three, which means there is a whole range of possibilities when it comes to personalisation. Add each of the couple's names to a candle, then for the third add a personal message, or date.

50 years – Gold

There's not many couples nowadays who reach their golden wedding anniversary, with people choosing to marry later in life, or getting divorced. So this really is an achievement worth celebrating! Our Opulent Treasure candle is decorated in golden swirls, with added pearl and diamante embellishments, so it's definitely worthy of the occasion.

Henna Night Fun

Henna nights are one of my favourite functions to attend! As I am a big lover of henna, I love having my palms designed with gorgeous strips of henna. If it’s a close family members henna night, I like to be able to mingle with the guests and enjoy the night. I tend to go for a simple but pretty design for the henna artist, similar to this one. Here I have designed a diagonal strip with swirl like patterns to use the space of the hand and added a feathered effect in-between to give the pattern some depth and jazz it up a little more.

All About Easter – Symbols and Traditions Reflected In Our Designs March 09, 2016 17:24

Easter is one of those religious festivals which has become very commercialised, with the supermarkets stocking hundreds of chocolate eggs. It's great fun for kids, but unfortunately, this means that some of the original meanings of the festival are now forgotten.

Easter Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, which is traditionally preceded by Lent, a period of fasting. Also during Easter week Maundy Thursday marks the anniversary of the last supper, and Good Friday which marks the crucifixion of Christ. Easter Sunday takes place on 27 March this year.

We've decided to take a look at some of the symbols and traditions behind the festival, and (just for fun) we have matched the symbols up with some of our own products.

Eggs

Of course, one of the most recognisable symbols of Easter is the egg. There are actually a multitude of symbolic meanings associated with this. First of all, an egg represents new life, and the rebirth of plants and animals during Spring. Secondly the egg is said to represent the shape of the stone which was used to seal Jesus's tomb, or may even represent the empty tomb itself.

We don't have any egg-shaped candles, but we do have a range of ball candles like our Orchid Fire design. This would be ideal to light during any Easter celebrations.

ball candle

Palm Leaves

When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he was greeted by people waving palm branches, as was customary for royalty in Roman times. Nowadays, palm leaves are used in religious processions, and are used to decorate the church.

Our Frosted Forest candle set was inspired by green leaves, and the paisley shape almost resembles a palm leaf.

frosted forest candles

Food

Food is an important part of Easter as the feast of the Last Supper is commemorated as Jesus' last meal with his disciples before he was betrayed. There is also the period of fasting, known as Lent, prior to Easter Week itself.

Whether you've fasted for Lent, or if you want to commemorate the Last Supper, our Eat Me Drink Me teacup and saucer set is a great way to serve food or drinks.

eat me teacup set

Butterflies

The butterfly emerging from its cocoon is said to represent the rebirth of Christ after the crucifixion. Of course, the butterfly doesn't really die during its incubation period, it just goes through a transformation, in the same way that Jesus transformed from a man into a god-like being.

Our Bewitching Butterfly latte glass is a great way to enjoy a warm drink during Easter.

butterfly latte glass

Chalice

The chalice is a symbol of myth and legend, having been used by Jesus during the Last Supper. The chalice, also known as the Holy Grail, according to legend, was also used to collect Jesus' blood while he was hanging on the cross. The cup itself went missing shortly after, and the search for the Holy Grail has been subject to much speculation over the years.

Our Drunk In Love wine glass set isn't the Holy Grail, but it is coloured blood red and is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine during Easter.

Spring Florals: Our Favourite Products Inspired By Flowers March 07, 2016 17:28

Here at Designsbynn, we take a lot of inspiration from nature. That's why Springtime is one of our favourite times of year, as all the flowers begin to re-emerge after the long winter. Instead of the greys and browns and bare trees of winter, we start to see bright colours and vivid greens dotting the landscape. For us, Spring represents a sort of rebirth of the seasons, and you can see lots of baby animals and birds as well as new flowers.

In order to celebrate this wonderful time of year, we have chosen some of our favourite floral-inspired products, which we feel sum up the beauty of Spring. We hope you enjoy these products as much as we do!

Purple Ivy

Our Purple Ivy mug is inspired by the way that ivy leaves climb up walls and fences. So we decided to have the leaves climbing up the side of this mug! We chose purple and green as the colours really contrast and make each other stand out.

Rainbow Love

Why have just one type of flower when you can have twenty? Our Rainbow Love champagne flutes are decorated in an array of flowers, all brightly coloured and vivid. You can't help but feel in a light and bright mood while sipping a drink from these glasses.

Rainbow love champagne flutes

Graceful Delight

For our Graceful Delight latte mug we took our inspiration from daisies and buttercups, and other flowers you might find on a lawn. Those flowers may be small, but they are elegant and graceful, just like this glass.

Garden of Roses

Everyone loves a bouquet of roses, so you're bound to enjoy our Garden of Roses candle, which is decorated in roses of different colours. We couldn't decide on a single colour of rose, so we decided to add them all!

Floral Craze

Our Floral Craze ball candle got its name, because we went a little crazy with all things floral. This candle is bold and bright, with flowers, leaves and even gemstones added for a touch of sparkle. It will certainly add a touch of brightness to your home!

Flower Power

We love the power of flowers, which is why we designed this Flower Power candle. Not as bold as some of the other designs, this one is actually inspired by floral henna. It is timeless and elegant, just like a spring flower.

Henna Baking: My First Henna Inspired Birthday Cake March 06, 2016 20:56

You might think henna designs and cake? These two don’t go! They do and they make an amazingly stunning combination. I was asked by my lovely cousin to decorate a cake in pretty henna inspired patterns for my auntie’s big birthday bash! She has always been an avid lover of henna and whenever I would visit she would ask me to apply some henna for her. I was honoured she had asked me and couldn't wait to start my big henna cake challenge! So today I am going to share my experience with you all!

Beautiful Beginning

Working with candles is so much easier than working with a soft base. You have to be a lot more gentle when applying the icing to create your patterns and trying to get intricacy is very challenging. I’ll let you in on a trick I did before applying the patterns onto the cake base. On a piece of tracing paper I drew some simple flower and paisley designs in pencil and then went over them with icing. By practising on tracing paper it helped the end result look a lot neater and together. I was in more control of the icing and not so afraid to use my imagination.

Henna inspired cake

Tropical Theme

As you can see the colours are bright, beautiful and vibrant just like my auntie. I wanted to bring her favourite colours together and create a tropical theme which I think went well together! Small edible silver balls were added to give the cake a little bit of glam and to spice it up. I mainly went with flower and paisley designs as these were the two patterns that were most requested when I had a briefing with my cousin. I decided to break up the colours so the tropical theme could shine through more and people would be more drawn to it rather than using one or two colours.

Henna cake

Give It Go

If you’re into baking and know you have a creative streak in you then I definitely suggest you give this a go! You will love it and it will only let your creative juices start flowing and get you thinking of other ideas! They make amazing birthday, wedding, and baby shower gifts. Don’t forget you can always personalise them with a name, date or even a special quote to remember the special day!

What's Your Favourite Colour? Candle Colours and Meanings March 04, 2016 11:23

What's your favourite colour? Did you know that different colours of candles have different meanings?

The origin of the meanings behind different colours of candles goes back centuries to traditional folk healing, where ancient spells, chants and herbal remedies would be passed down through communities.

Today, coloured candles are still used in a wide range of spiritual and religious rituals.

So, whether you want to use different coloured candles for meditation or ritual, or if you just want to bring a feeling of spirituality into your home, here's our guide to the different meanings for different colours of candles.

Purple

Purple is the colour of the third eye chakra, so it represents spirituality, healing, ancient wisdom and power. It can also enhance your connection to the spiritual world. Use it to enhance your meditation, and to improve your chances of power and success.

We recommend: Purple Haze tealight candles

Pink

Unsurprisingly, pink is the colour of love and romance, but it also represents friendship and family. It increases spiritual energy, and so can be used as a tool for devotion, or increasing bonds of love or friendship. Pink also represents femininity.

We recommend: Henna Fountain Pillar Candle

Orange

Orange is the colour of success and happiness. It can be used to help you achieve good things in life, such as success, prosperity and career goals. It also helps to improve mental agility, stamina and emotional healing, so using this colour brings a lot of positivity into your life.

We recommend: Orangina Pillar candle

Red

Red is the colour of passion, lust, sex and fertility. It strengthens physical magnetism when used in rituals, and can increase sexual energy. Red also represents fire, so it brings warmth and power.

We recommend: Queen Ruby pillar candle

The Beauty Behind Henna Flower Designs March 03, 2016 21:25

Henna has been around for 100s of years most commonly used at special occasions like weddings, baby showers and birthdays!  One special design that has evolved over the years is the gorgeous and one of my favourites, the flower design! The popularity for flower designs just continues to grow and with time new patterns become more popular as do the old ones!  The majority of henna designs you see today will always have some sort of flower design incorporated into the final design. Today I will be sharing the meanings behind flower, vine and mandala designs.

Flower Of Joy

Flower designs aren’t just pretty to look at; they have a deeper meaning when applied on to the skin. The beautiful flower design is supposed to bring out joy and happiness in the bride. A lotus flower design is said to awaken the human soul and also show off grace, beauty, creativity, sensuality, femininity and last but not least purity. It’s nice knowing when you have this beautiful art applied onto your bare skin that each pattern has a deeper meaning. It makes you want to show the pattern off more and explain to people what each of them means! Here I am sharing a picture of a henna design which I created for a lady who was leaving for her summer holidays. She wanted something simple but floral. She was very happy with the end result.

Vine Beautiful

You will see vine leafs intertwined with pretty flowers dotted about, I feel these two elements paired together bring the whole design together! They look stunning around the arm or near the ankle. Vine leafs are an attractive design that symbolises perseverance, vitality and longevity. Qualities which are very important for a relationship to prosper and grow! Here is a design I created for a gorgeous lady.

Visually Appealing

Another flower design which can be created into beautiful henna art is the mandala design! This design looks great on the inner or outer palms and can be big or small as you like. The mandala design is said to symbolise the universe. This design is visually appealing and had made it a firm favourite amongst henna artists. You will see many variations of this design and all of them are breath taking. Here is one I designed for a bride to be in 2015, she wanted her bridal to be kept elegant and simple. She was extremely happy at the end!

Spring Has Sprung: Gifts Inspired By The Season March 02, 2016 16:48

As we enter into the month of March, we can look forward to the arrival of Spring. During this month, we will see the seasons finally change after a long winter. The snow will melt from the hills and mountains, daffodils and snowdrops will appear in gardens, green leaves will begin to appear on trees and bushes, and cherry blossoms will emerge.

Spring is also a time of celebrations, with cultures and religions all over the world revelling in the new season. From the religious festivals of Purim, Holi and Easter, to Spain's Las Fallas and Japan's Cherry blossom festival – each of these events has some elements of the emergence of light over darkness, and the beginning of new life.

To celebrate the arrival of spring, we've put together this list of our favourite Spring-inspired products. These items reflect the colours of the season, and include details such as plants and flowers to mimic the emerging plant-life of Spring time.

Daisy Pop

To coincide with the arrival of spring, our Daisy Pop wine glasses are one of our latest new products to be added to the site. We designed a brightly coloured daisy motif, inspired by the flowers of Springtime, to help you enjoy an aperitif out in the garden on one of those bright Spring evenings.

Tea Garden

If alcohol isn't your cup of tea, then our Tea Garden tea cup and saucer set surely will be! We have decorated it in a floral motif, which reflects the flowers emerging throughout Spring time. Personalise it with your own colour choices, or by adding a name!

Buttercup Blush

Did you ever hold a buttercup under your chin as a child, to find out whether you liked butter? Whether you liked butter or not, you'll definitely love our Buttercup Blush mug. The flowers and bright colours are so reminiscent of Spring

Bronze Blossom

Our Bronze Blossom tea light candles were inspired by the cherry blossom trees you see everywhere at this time of year. Instead of going for the usual pink colour, we decided to give our design a bit of an update with this ultra-modern metallic colour.

Henna Garden

Why have just a singular flower when you can have a whole garden? Our Henna Garden candle is adorned with green leaves, and brightly coloured flowers. We've even added a few jewels for an extra touch of sparkle.

Holi Festival (Festival of Colours): History and Traditions February 29, 2016 12:30

With Holi Festival approaching, we thought it would be a good idea to look back at some of the history and traditions associated with the festival.

Holi is an ancient Hindu festival, which is mainly practised in India and Nepal, although in recent years the festival has spread to parts of North America and Europe. It marks the beginning of spring, and is also known as the festival of colours, or the festival of sharing love, and it is this idea of everyone coming together which has made the festival gain popularity worldwide.

Holi colour festival celebrations

The festival is celebrated during the full moon in Phalgun, which is in the month of March. A bonfire is lit to symbolise the burning of Holika and to commemorate the triumph of good over evil. Then the following day everyone takes to the streets to take part in frivolities, and the throwing of colours.

Holi occurs on 23rd March this year, so there is still plenty of time to plan your celebrations. We've put together this guide to help you.

Pranks and Frivolities

During the Holi celebrations it is traditional for people to get up to all sorts of pranks and frivolities, often getting up to all sorts of mischief that they wouldn't normally. Throwing the coloured powders and dyes is only a part of this. One of the common phrases that can be heard everywhere is "Bura na mano, Holi hai!" which means "Don't be upset, it's Holi!"

Inspired by the fun and frivolities, we designed our Rainbow Bliss tealight set, using all of the bright colours of Holi

rainbow bliss tea light candles

Lighting the bonfire

The lighting of the bonfire during the full moon marks the beginning of Holi. It is constructed out of dead leaves, twigs and wood, and by burning this it marks the end of winter and beginning of spring. People dance and sing around the bonfire, then they take the embers of the fire to light their own fires or candles at home.

Our Orange fizz champagne flutes have the same colours as the bonfire, and can be used as part of the celebrations

Playing with colours

The day after the bonfire is "Dhuledi" or the festival of colours. Communities of people all come together to smear colours on each other and passers-by. Traditionally, these coloured dyes would have been made using herbs, but now synthetic dye powders, water balloons and even water pistols filled with coloured waters are used.

The atmosphere during the festival of colours is definitely like a party, so we tried to replicate this in our flower party candles.

Visiting family and friends

Visiting friends and family is an important part of Holi, where everyone comes together to celebrate. Everyone takes part, from children to the elderly, and gifts are exchanged between family members.

Our tutti frutti candle has lots of bright colours, just like Holi, and can be given as a gift to friends or relatives.

Too Yummy To Eat? My First Henna Biscuits! February 28, 2016 14:05

When I’m not applying henna on skin I like to try out new ideas! Last summer I was browsing through Pinterest when I came across pictures of bright beautiful henna biscuits which had been adorned in intricate designs. It was love at first sight and I had to give this challenge a go! It was definitely much more difficult then I originally thought but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would advise any of you out there who have a passion for henna to try these gorgeous henna biscuits out.

Design Is Key

It was difficult for me to choose what colours to go with when I wanted to use all of them! I decided to go with a white base as colours tend to stand out more on a blank canvas. The colours I chose were red, orange and blue! I felt these colours went well together and complimented each other. When designing the biscuits I was drawn towards Mandala designs as the biscuits were round. Mandala designs are a very attractive design which catches the eye instantly. It is a circular figure representing the universe with geometric designs incorporated to become a large pattern which is most commonly linked to the Hindu religion.

Applying Icing To The Biscuits

The first thing I noticed was that the consistency of royal icing is much runnier than henna paste. Henna paste is much thicker and tends to stay in one place. You have to keep a firm but light grip on the icing cone when applying intricate patterns and guide the cone into the shapes you desire.  I added small silver balls to add a colourful effect to the biscuits and jazz them up a little bit more.  This was a great experience and I would definitely try these again but with different shaped biscuits and other colours.

Treat Your Loved Ones

Once you’ve made your henna inspired cookies you can treat your friends and family to them! I personally think they’re too pretty to eat if I’m honest. If you’ve got a friend’s wedding, birthday, baby shower coming up soon then this is a great gift idea! The best thing about making these for loved ones is that they can be personalised from the taste, shape, theme colours, names and dates. Your nearest and dearest won’t be disappointed and it may inspire them to create these stunning biscuits for those they care about.

Say It With Thanks: Creative Ways To Show Your Appreciation February 26, 2016 14:14

Thanking someone can be tricky to get right. Especially if someone has done something extra special for you, then a simple "thank you" is often not enough. You could always send a card, but there isn't really anything personal about a store-bought greeting card.

We believe that grand gestures and gifts are the way forward, when it comes to showing someone your appreciation. Of course it can be daunting, but we've put together this guide to help you find the right way to say thanks. Our suggestions range from the simple to the extravagant, so you're sure to find something appropriate for your situation.

    Raise a Toast

Giving a toast to someone is a very public way of thanking someone, and is normally reserved for weddings and other similar events. You could go one step further by presenting the person you want to thank with their own personalised wine glass.

    personalised wine glasses

    Cook or bake

Cooking is a great way to show someone your appreciation, as it involves putting lots of effort into creating something for the other person to enjoy. Either invite them round for a home-cooked meal, or if it's just a casual acquaintance then why not give a gift of home-baking, which is sure to be enjoyed!

    Give a surprise gift

Nothing says "Thank You" quite like a surprise gift, and here at Designsbynn we have lots to choose from! All of our gifts can be personalised with the recipient's name, or a thank you message, as shown in this example, with our Orchid Fire ball candle.

    personalised thank you gift

    Flowers

Giving flowers is one of the more traditional ways of thanking someone. But instead of just choosing a bunch from the supermarket, why not pop into a florist and have a bunch made especially. You can include their favourite flowers or colours. Or even a potted plant or basket makes a longer-lasting gift than a simple bouquet.

    A romantic gesture

If you want to thank your husband, wife or partner, why not treat them to a romantic gesture? Our Valentines Collection is a great place to find some gift ideas for loved ones, and you don't have to wait until Valentine's Day to be romantic. What about our Sweet Sayings mug set from the collection, which can be enjoyed all year round?

Beautiful Henna Designs: My Top 3 Favourite Designs February 25, 2016 00:00

Henna designs are what makes my world go round and today I thought I would share my top 3 all time favourite designs. In each design I create I put 110% into it and make it look gorgeous and make sure the client is happy with the outcome of course. I love a variety of patterns from Mandala designs to floral strips. If you’re reading this you may find some inspiration in some of the pictures I share today! Let’s go!

    Floral Crawl

This floral crawl design is lovely for someone who wants a little henna to show off but not a lot. These small gulf roses crawl up the arm to create a long bracelet style with an intertwined bracelet to match. The small rose designs are based on Arabic patterns which I have fallen in love with and it seems to be a go to flower design I go to when I am creating new patterns.

    Henna design

    Flower Power

Big floral patterns always make me happy and here is a great example! This flower design starts out small and then gradually blooms into a grown flower. I have kept the petals quite long; you don’t normally see this style often. Creating new floral patterns makes my mind grow with so many new ideas and hope it does with you too.

    Henna design

    Henna Glove

Glove henna has become quite popular! From far it can create this woven henna glove effect which looks gorgeous when the stain has developed. This design is very unique in it and looks great on someone who likes something different and is a little bit more daring with idea!

    ball candle selection

Ball candles are also great to give as gifts. As you can see from the photos below, we can add any type of personal message, such as a "thank you" or "happy birthday." Ball candles also look great as table decorations for a wedding, with the names of the happy couple added to each candle.

We have lots of ball candles in different colours and designs, and you can view the full range here. Below we have chosen some of our favourites.

    Golden Ivy

Our golden Ivy design is inspired from nature, and the way that the ivy plant twists and turns. We have chosen black and gold colouring to add a touch of elegance, while the diamante crystal embellishments add a touch of luxury. As with all our products, the colours can be adapted to your own design.

    Lime Blush

Again, we took our inspiration from plant life, with this Lime Blush floral design. We chose the vivid green colour to represent leaves, and added a touch of pink to really make the colours pop. This candle would make a great gift for a birthday or occasion, to really brighten up somebody's day. Any names or words you choose can be added to the front.

    Lime blush ball candle

    Ocean Pearl

Our Ocean Pearl ball candle is one of our favourites, as it represents everything you will find under the sea. The swirling design is reminiscent of waves crashing, with added sea plants and shells. Of course, we had to choose blues and greens for this design, and have even added pearl embellishments to fit in with the rest of the theme.

Henna: What Is It Used For And Where Did It All Start? February 21, 2016 00:00

You may know henna to be most commonly used on special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and parties. But there are many more benefits of using henna and today I am going to be sharing them with you. Henna has many uses and all of them are wonderful!

    Henna Origin

This beautiful art we call henna has been practiced for more than 5000 years in India, The Middle East and Africa! Henna has natural cooling properties and it is believed that the practice of henna started many years ago where people in hot countries and in the desert would use it to cool their body’s down. They would crush the henna leaves down into small bits and make it into a paste. They would then dip their feet and hands in to reap the cooling benefits of henna which would give them an air conditioned effect for the rest of the day. As the stain of the henna would develop after applying it, the women started getting tired of bright red palms and instead got creative by applying patterns with sticks which looked more appealing and also still had the cooling effect.

    Henna

    Medicinal Purposes

Henna is known for its cooling and healing properties and that’s why it has been used when someone has a burn or cut. It has also been known to treat conditions such as headaches, diarrhoea and athletes foot.

    Henna

    Henna Beautiful

The uses of henna doesn't just stop there, another great use of henna is for cosmetic reasons. People use henna as a hair dye, it leave an orange stain and is used frequently in hot countries.

The World Of Henna: Inspiration I Found In February February 18, 2016 00:00

I never like to miss a photo opportunity when I find inspiration for my work. I feel it helps me discover myself and better my work when a breath of inspiration has been found. I find things that inspire me in day to day life; it can be anything from a cushion cover to a simple leaf! Every month I am going to be sharing my top 4 inspirations and talk about them more in detail!

    Inspiration Paisley

If you me personally you know my favourite design is a paisley! Any type of paisley, I absolutely love them! The way they swirl over the top and finish in a curl looks so beautiful. I found this paisley on a wedding invite. What draws me to it is the shaping of each layer and how they are so detailed and then have a few flowers in the centre.

    Henna Paisley

    Henna Elephant

How stunning is this elle? The colours on the embellished cushions what drew me to it! I love the mix match of bright purple and then yellow mixed in. The tiny detail on the elephant’s feet also gave me ideas to add to my next henna candle.

    Mandala Wardrobe

I want this in my house! I found this one-of-kind piece in a department store; I was instantly amazed and started thinking about where I could put it. The Mandala design in bronze goes well with the mint background, I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

    Little Prints Of Heaven

Little prints of Mandala designs always attract me, no matter where I am! I love how detailed these are and how appealing it looks. There are so many ideas going through my head when I look at this.

    Mother's Day Celebrations And Traditions February 17, 2016 18:04

The celebration of Mother's Day originated in the United States in the early 20th Century, however. there have been traditions and celebrations to honour your mother dating back hundreds of years. In the UK in the seventeenth century, workers would be allowed to return home to their "mother church" during the fourth Sunday of Lent, and would often be reunited with their families on this day. Elsewhere in Europe, Mothering Sunday would be spent worshiping and praying to the Virgin Mary.

The Mothers Day celebrations as we know them today began in the US in 1908, and since then the holiday has grown in popularity throughout the world, with flowers and cards being among the most popular gifts. The sentiment of showing appreciation to your mother has also extended to include Grandmothers, Stepmothers, Mothers in Law, or just any important female figure in your life.

To celebrate the introduction of four fabulous new products, we have listed some of the most important Mother's Day celebrations and traditions, which are still practised today. You can view the full range of our personalised Mother's Day Gifts here.

    Go to Church

Why not honour the religious traditions of Mother's Day by visiting your local church for a Sunday service? It's a great excuse to put on your best clothes and enjoy a walk in the fresh air outside on your way to and from the church. If your family isn't religious or if the weather is cold outside then a ceremonial lighting of our Enchanted Eden Mother's Day Candle will work equally as well to honour the tradition.

    Wear a Carnation

Giving a bunch of carnations, or wearing a carnation for Mother's day is one of the most popular Mother's Day traditions, and that's where a lot of the inspiration came from when we first envisioned this collection. The only problem with flowers is that they die within a few weeks. If you want to give a more permanent Mother's Day gift, then why not go for our floral-inspired Thanks A Latte coffee glass?

    Bake a Cake

Baking a cake together with your mum, or making one especially for her is a fun way to celebrate Mother's Day. In France, a special cake is made to look as though it is a bunch of flowers, while in the UK, almond cake is traditional for Mother's Day. Of course, a cake in the afternoon always tastes better with wine, and would be ideal served with our Daisy Pop wine glasses.

Simple And Fun Henna Designs For Kids February 14, 2016 15:22

As henna is becoming more and more popular it’s not only adults wanting this beautiful art but kids also want their henna done. The patterns have to be kept quite simple due kids getting quite impatient at times.  Henna makes them feel special and important and is a good idea as an entertainment option at a kids birthday party or school fete. If you’re on the lookout for henna inspiration for your child to have then keep reading as I will be sharing my top 3!

    Fly Butterfly

For all those girly girls, butterflies are always a big hit! I think it’s because they’re so pretty and elegant. They can be designed in many ways so each one is unique. You can decide how big or small you want your child to have this design, they look great on the front of the hand!

    Minion Mania

For those boys who love henna, minion mania is here! This was done for my young nephew who wanted a fun henna drawing. Henna isn’t just for girls. If you child wants something a little more different then their favourite football team sign looks great or another popular one is their name across the wrist or top of the arm.

    Small And Simple

Henna patterns look so cute and pretty on small hands especially! I love applying henna on small hands as the patterns look more intricate and delicate. Here is typical henna strip for a young girl; she had a love for flowers so I tried to incorporate that into the pattern as much as I could. She loved the end result!

The Bright Colours of Holi February 12, 2016 12:35

Holi Festival, also known as the festival of colours, is an important celebration in the Hindu calendar, and in recent years it has become increasingly popular in western cultures also. On the day itself, brightly coloured powders or coloured water is sprayed over each other in a celebration of love, family, friendship and fun. It also marks the beginning of Spring with the bright colours signifying new life and light after the long dark Winter.

Holi takes place on 23rd March this year, so now is the ideal time to start thinking about decorations for your home. We have taken inspiration from the colours of Holi to assemble this list of our favourite bright and colourful products. These will bring some colour to your home, either for Holi festival, or just for fun.

    Kaleidoscopic Party

As the name suggests, our Kaleidoscopic Party jumbo tealight candles contain every vivid colour you can imagine, a bit like looking through a kaleidoscope! They come in a pack of 10, and each tealight will burn for approximately 9 hours, meaning they will last well into the Springtime and beyond.

    Rainbow Bliss

We have used every single colour of the rainbow for our set of 20 Rainbow Bliss tealight candles. The patterns include flowers, dots, swirls and bursts of colour, so are ideal to place around your home during Holi, or just to add a touch of colour.

    Pillar Candles

As well as tea light candles, we also have a range of pillar candles, which literally come in every colour or pattern you could imagine. Choose one of our multicoloured designs for Holi, or just a simple design to match the colour of your home.

    Rainbow Sky

We think that the colours and swirls on our Rainbow Sky wine glasses look like the coloured dyes being thrown into the air on Holi. This set of two wine glasses would make the ideal gift for Holi, either to give to a couple, or keep one for yourself and give the other to your best friend.

Beautiful Intricate Henna Designs February 11, 2016 00:00

Bridal season is slowly approaching and whilst you’re busy planning your big day, you may also be on the search for some inspiration for your bridal henna! If you’re looking for something intricate and love detail then you’re in for a treat. I am going to be sharing my top 3 intricate designs which you can use as inspiration for your bridal henna.

    Simply Intricate

Intricate henna doesn’t necessarily mean it has to completely cover your whole hand. You can choose a pattern like a Mandala which acts as a statement piece. The Mandala can incorporate many different patterns and be detailed at the same time. This pattern starts as a round circle which can grow and grow depending on how heavy you want the pattern. The Mandala symbolizes harmony and unity and would look stunning as your bridal henna.

    It’s All In The Detail

Perfect for the bride that loves henna and wants full coverage! This gorgeous design starts from the elbow and ends as the fingertips fully covering every inch of the skin. It looks beautiful in my opinion! Each section has its own level of intricacy. The lady I did this henna for wanted a bride and groom drawing to represent her and soon to be husbands love story. This style is great for the traditional brides.

    Strip me Simple

Strip henna has become more popular in the last few years for brides. Here is an example of detailed strip henna. It covers the skin all the way down to the finger tips but still some skin on show which I think looks so pretty. Depending on how heavy or light you want the pattern you can let your henna artist know and they can work accordingly to bring your vision to life.

Candles for Spirituality And Wellbeing February 10, 2016 20:10

Candles are much more than just a decoration for your home. They have a history going back over 2000 years, when the first candles were used in the Roman empire, made from tallow, a type of animal fat. Throughout the centuries, candles have been used  during religious ceremonies, and for ancient folk healing rituals.

Some of these traditions with candles have continued into the modern world, despite our increasing reliance on modern technology and medicine. Many modern holistic therapies incorporate candles into their practice, to help promote a feeling of health and wellbeing.

We stock a range of candles and tealights on our site in all shapes and sizes. Each candle can be personalised to include a name, date, or a choice of colours.

Here are some of the ways in which candles can be used to promote spiritual wellbeing:

    Meditation & Relaxation

Candle meditation has been around for centuries as a way to clear your mind and concentrate on your own thoughts. Gazing into the flame is a great way to focus on your meditation and you can even visualise the candle as a source of life energy. Alternatively, you can light candles around the room and create a relaxing mood for a more tranquil meditation. Even if you don't believe in meditation, lighting candles around a room is a great way to help you relax after a stressful day.

    Removing Negative Energy

The origins of using candles to rid a room of negative energy dates back to medieval times when the practice would have been carried out as a folk tradition or religious ritual. This type of spell casting went out of popularity during the European witch hunts, but has regained popularity in recent years. Different colours of candles have different meanings, and you can use a single colour or a combination of colours in order to achieve your chosen goals. Choose white for clarity, purity and innocence; violet to connect with a higher level of consciousness or spirituality; or turquoise for healing and protection. Then visualise the negative energy being consumed by the flame.

    Religion & Spirituality

Candles are used in a number of religions as a symbol of joy or life-giving power. They are used for ceremonial purposes, within places of worship, and also in people's homes. Arguably, one of the most important religious festivals is Diwali, the festival of light, where candles are lit to signify the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil. Whatever your religion, or even if you don't have any set beliefs, candles are essential in helping you reach a level of spirituality and peace of mind.
